We have really grown up. We started nearly 5 years ago as ultralight.net.au but to fit in better with the planned future development of the site in providing you with such a comprehensive home of everything to do with flying recreational aircraft, we changed our name to recreationalflying.com.au. Now in a few weeks time we are going to make a small change to our name to again reflect the way our industry is going and to "come of age" in the aviation industry. Our name will adopt the international aviation industry domain name extension of .aero - so the .com.au will change to .aero - this means that our new web address will become
recreationalflying.aero
For a small period of time afterwards the .com.au extension will still operate to ensure returning visitors have time to update their links and favourites.
The .aero extension typifies more what our home is all about - this site is the ultimate home of providing a resource where recreational pilots can come together in one single place to help each other in safety, maintenance and flying skills and is in an environment where there isn't any advertising, no financial gains being made, no pressure and no ulterior motives - just pure help and support from one pilot to another.
That was my dream and that is what this site is all about.
Along with the name change you will also see more features being added in the area of video presentations (something I have been wanting and working on for some time now) and the code is nearly finished to facilitate the return of the video chat room with new Video/Audio/Text chat software. We are also adding to this package the new Recreational Flying TV Station where you can pop in and watch themed aviation broadcasts. Down the track we will also be looking at video conferencing for RAAus Clubs and Schools and one on one video rooms for Aircraft Distributors.
Recreational Flying is already regarded as the best and most informative recreational aviation site in Australia and is fast earning the same reputation all around the world by the many international users that come here and log on every day. We constantly get over 11% of registered members logging in per day with the highest number of registered users that logged on in one single 24hr period was 1,124 - note that doesn't count the many guest users that are viewing the site all the time, that is pure registered members.
The .aero extension represents a professional in the aviation industry and Recreational Flying with a Google Rating of 4, is proven to be the single most trusted and respected resource for recreational pilots, aviators and enthusiasts on the internet.
Shame about the strange looking logo though
